Your story is a good one, my Birthday Girl L! We went out to dinner with neighbors, one week before your due date. We went to our favorite local place, Jennings, because I wanted a soft crab sandwich. Lots of fun, laughing about the "new" addition on the way.
Our favorite waitress, Miss Peggy came over to see if we wanted dessert. "Have a piece Boston Cream Pie, and you'll have that baby" she said. We all laughed - sure, we'll have a piece, why not!
One hour later, 8:30pm, getting ready for bed, I felt something....different. Like, water. Oh crap, water! You are breech, Dr L and Dr. E (mom/daughter team) didn't want me to go into labor, I'm supposed to have a c-section in 1 week! More water, don't panic - yell for Mark. Mark calls the doctor, then I call my mom. She answers groggy, a bit out of it. "My water just broke, we are going to the hospital, mom?" She manages to get out that she just took a pain pill for her neck, so I hang up and call your auntie K-K tell her about Grammie, and she goes to pick her to meet us at the hospital. We call Grampie next, he is 2 1/2 hours away!
We get to the hospital, scared, but giddy. Have you had anything to eat they ask? Um, yeah, I ate like a pig tonight! Uh-oh, they don't like this. Check the baby, still breech - still need a c-section. Waiting for Dr. L and Dr. E to get there, they hear about my dinner and laugh, laugh at me joking! It's a great time, I was freaking scared and the contractions hurt! We finally get into the OR - I get the epidural and wooooow, the warm wash flows through my legs and we are ready to go! I start shaking, and I mean shaking like the whole table from nerves. Then Dr. L tells Mark he can look over the screen - he sees a little butt - "it's a butt" he says over and over.
Next thing I hear is Dr. L telling us "It's a Lauren!" since we told her the names we picked out. I thought, What's a Lauren, What's a Lauren???? OH! It's a girl! They bring you over, your screaming little self! I am shaking so much that they give a shot of something and I go out for a few minutes, next thing I wake up being sewn back together and no Daddy - he's gone off to be with our sweet, new little Lauren.
Flash forward - you have been the love and joy in our lives. How can you be 8 years old already, 8! I love your laugh, your smile, your independence. Happy Birthday!
