Just Call Me the Luckiest Mom, Ever!

My Mother's Day actually started on Friday morning at L's school where they had Muffins for Mom. The kids asked us which flavor we wanted (I of course went straight for the throat with a Chocolate with Chocolate Chip muffin). Then their teacher, who we absolutely adore, read "Someday" by Alison McGhee. She didn't even get to the first page before she started to cry. Then all of the mom's started crying. What a book.

The big build up to Mother's Day continued as my little K kept telling me "we have 3 surprises for you Mommy, is today the day yet?" She even told me she would tell me! No, I said, I like surprises. "But I don't" she said. Obviously! I was constantly reminded by L to stay in bed and do not get right up to take a shower, which is my normal wake up routine. She was so excited she woke my husband up at 6 am to get ready!

I wish I had my camera with me, because they fixed me french toast cut out in the shape of hearts, with a little powdered sugar and fresh strawberries with a latte! And we snuggled and L stole shared some of my strawberries.

Bring on my surprises! The first is this beautiful Pandora necklace. The girls each picked out their own bead, and M picked the third bead. It is very summery and beachy, just what I love!

Then the girls gave me their projects from school . These make me cry every year, seriously. I can't believe how fast my babies have grown up!

From K, who is in pre-school. Those teachers know how to tug at your heart, they are professionals I tell you with their hand prints and tear jerker poems! There was also a cup with flowers growing and a potpourri jar that she made.

L made me this awesome card. They made it by blowing the black paint (the branches) then sponge painting the pink flowers onto the branches - so beautiful! Plus I got this bonus cookie from the Italian place we got our pizza from on Friday.

The rest of the day for me was spent in one of my favorite places...my garden. Uninterrupted, I succeeded in getting many of my flowers in and organized. There is still a lot of work to be done, but that is for another post!

Later in the afternoon my husband prepared one of the best meals I have ever had! My mom, her boyfriend and my sister came over and M totally out-did himself! We had Chilean Seabass with shitake mushrooms, and home made roasted peppers wrapped in a pastry standing in pesto sauce. Then we had a small piece of the seabass on the side with bur blanc sauce with polenta with white asparagus.

My sister topped it all off with fresh warm brownies with vanilla ice cream with homemade whipped cream, caramel and fudge sauce!

Needless to say, I went to bed a happy, loved, Mom surrounded by the best family in the world!

  2. It sounds like you had the perfect Mother's day! :-)

LOL @ K saying she doesn't like surprises. I was the same way and would spoil surprises most of the time ;-)

  3. Happy Mothers's Day to you too! Those gifts are too precious. Love them! I am very jealous your husband can cook. Really. Mine can make a mean grilled cheese.....does that count? Didn't think so.
